Another Lefty Double Standard Exposed

All the usual leftymedia suspects and lefties in gubment are going bonkers over how wonderful Sonia Sotomayor is.

However, it’s worth considering how many of those same lefties, including the one now in the Oval Office, treated a prior Hispanic judge nominated to a high position: Miguel Estrada, who was nominated to the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia by President Bush (43).

Estrada’s life story compares well with that of Sotomayor, who has been lauded by the lefties. Estrada came to the US at a young age (I’ve seen 15 and 17 listed) from Honduras, the son of a middle-class Honduran family. It is likely that he spoke little or no English, almost certainly not the kind of English that one uses every day as a lawyer (where rap-song slang isn’t really prevalent). Yet despite all these obstacles, he not only became a naturalized citizen of this nation, he graduated magna cum laude (that’s the second highest honor–only summa cum laude is higher) from Columbia University and Harvard Law School, argued over a dozen cases before the US Supreme Court, and earned the American Bar Association’s highest evaluation, “well qualified.” The League of United Latin American Citizens urged his approval to the Court of Appeals.

Yet because of all of that, Democrats opposed him–including then-Senator Barack Obama. In fact, they would not even permit an up-or-down vote in the Senate on his nomination, using the filibuster to block a vote until he withdrew his name.

And yet the Democrats who opposed Estrada were not berated as racists or anti-Hispanic.

Now, watch closely what happens to any Republican or conservative who dares speak ill of Sotomayor. You’ll see a blatant double-standard in action.
