Ya gotta marvel at the sheer audacity of the spin:
Democratic party leaders insisted the loss wasn’t a harbinger of things to come. “It’s a very difficult district for Democrats,” said Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, noting its Democratic margins there tend to be the second lowest of all the districts in New York City.
Now, look at the following facts:
- The partisan breakdown of voter registrations is 3 Democrats for every Republican.
- The Democrats have held this district continuously since 1923.
- The Cook rating for NY-9 is D+5, meaning that the district is about 5 percentage points more Democratic than the country as a whole.
If this is a “difficult” district for Democrats, I’d like to see what they consider an “easy” district!
Bottom line, the Democrats are losing even the bluest parts of the country right now, and so they’re panicking… and it shows.
