North Carolina voters approved a constitutional amendment on Tuesday defining marriage solely as a union between a man and a woman, making it the 30th state to adopt such a ban.
We can expect lots of frothing at the mouth over this from the left side of the blogosphere today. After all, it’s a mark of the most extreme end of the right-wing to agree with… the Dalai Lama!
“A gay couple came to see me,” he said during an interview, “seeking my support and blessing. I had to explain our teachings. Another lady introduced another woman as her wife – astonishing. It is the same with a husband and wife using certain sexual practices. Using the other two holes is wrong.”
“A Western friend asked me what harm there could be between consenting adults having oral sex, if they enjoyed it,” the Dalai Lama continued, warming to his theme. “But the purpose of sex is reproduction, according to Buddhism. The other holes don’t create life. I don’t mind – but I can’t condone this way of life.”
And just think, the Democrats are going to have their convention in North Carolina this year. I’m sure the mobs of pro-gay-marriage protesters following the Democrats to Charlotte and predictably castigating North Carolinians for this vote will help keep this state in the blue column, where it landed in 2008 by less than 1 percentage point.
