…and, a lot of people are going to be disappointed… they’re not Arabs, though they’re likely Muslim, and likely not radical conservatives either.
WCVB 5 in Boston (among others) reports:
One suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was killed early Friday morning, while his brother, Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, was being sought following the killing of an MIT Police officer and an attack on police officers in Watertown that involved grenades, other explosives and gunfire.
The Associated Press reported that the brothers, identified by authorities as the Boston Marathon bombers, were from a Russia region near Chechnya, and had lived in the United States for an extended period of time.
The man known as suspect No. 2, in the widely-distributed FBI surveillance photos wearing the white hat, is the suspect being sought. Authorities identified him as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19.
Gov. Deval Patrick said there was a “massive manhunt” underway for Tsarnaev.
“We believe this to be a terrorist,” Boston Police Commr. Edward Davis said at an early morning news conference. “We believe this to be a man who came here to kill people.”
The two bombing suspects were chased into Watertown following the fatal shooting of an MIT Police officer and the carjacking of another person.
The carjack victim said the brothers told him they were the Boston Marathon bombers.
Islam is the state religion in Chechnya, so it’s likely that they’re Muslim, though you can expect the Usual Media Suspects to downplay that as much as they can, since it’s likely a lot of people who don’t follow the news on a minute-by-minute basis are unaware that Chechnya is a Muslim area.
Many leftists were hoping that it would be a white American male, with some even opining that the fact that it happened in April was de facto evidence that it was “right-wing” terrorism. So far, they’re one for three… they are white, but they’re not Americans and not demonstrably right-wing, either. What they are, however, is evil.
Prayers for the officers involved in this chase, and for their families and loved ones. Let us hope no more fall.
